Gilben’s, the celebrated establishment in Mt. Airy known for its bakery and soul food, has proved they can also make beef and chicken cheesesteaks to match anything you will find in South Philly. “Ooey gooey” is the term Gilben’s uses to describe their sandwiches, and they are not kidding.

 

It is hard to walk past the case of massive homemade cake slices on the right, and the trays of awesome barbecued creations on the left, and stay focused on the mission – to get your hands on a hot, juicy, flavorful (and yes, ooey gooey) Gilben’s cheesesteak, but in the end it is well worth it.  Gilben’s cheesesteaks are heavenly.
