ANGELO'S

PHILLY'S OBSESSION

The lines are out the door, and that’s just to PLACE an order. This is the spot all Philadelphians, and even some in the national media, are buzzing about – both for cheesesteaks and pizza. But does Angelo’s really live up to its hype?

Yes.

The debate over Philly’s best cheesesteak will never end, but if you ask Angelo’s fans – and there are legions of them – they will tell you Angelo’s is #1 and no one else even comes close. One reason is that Sarcone’s, one of the city’s best bakeries, is located on the same block as Angelo’s and delivers fresh-baked rolls throughout the day. But it is more than just that. Angelo’s prepares generous servings of the highest quality beef, cheese, and onions in perfect proportion, resulting in a masterpiece of a cheesesteak.

Angelo’s was founded in 2013 by Danny DiGiampietro, a likeable and ambitious visionary who is also behind two other new steakeries on Willie’s Top 50 – Uncle Gus’ Steaks in the Reading Terminal Market, and Danny & Coop’s in NYC (a joint venture with Bradley Cooper). Angelo’s is located on 9th Street, just two blocks north of the Italian Market and around the corner from the Palumbo Recreation Center. Yep, chalk up another one for South Philly.

Angelo’s was featured on the Netflix food series Somebody Feed Phil. Phil loved the pizza (which is also at the top of many Philadelphians’ lists) but the poor guy somehow unfortunately missed Angelo’s amazing cheesesteak. A return visit is in order.

Angelo’s is cash only, so head to an ATM and load up -- because the cheesesteaks here are simply too good to miss.
